Malaga Weather Overview
The reason why so many people land at Malaga Airport is the great weather on the Costa Del Sol. Plus the fact that we’re only a 2.5-hour flight from the UK and major European airports. Malaga’s climate is subtropical/Mediterranean. This means that we enjoy mild winters and hot summers. Yearly, Malaga gets around 300 days of sunshine and only about 50 days of rain. Of course, nobody can guarantee the weather. But we can assure you that from June to mid-September it is VERY HOT and sunny in Malaga.

Summer Weather on the Costa Del Sol
The Costa del Sol is close to the African continent. Therefore, the climate here is both sub-tropical and Mediterranean. The temperatures in mid-summer rarely dip below 30°C (86°F), and can occasionally reach as high as 40°C (104°F). The highest temperatures are usually inland, though, as the coast benefits from the cooling winds from the sea. Humidity can be high, as much as 79% in the mornings. It tends to decrease throughout the day as the sun burns off the clouds. So in a nutshell, the summer weather from June to mid-September on the Costa Del Sol is VERY HOT.
What to pack for a summer on the Costa Del Sol?
For summer on the Costa del Sol, it’s best to pack bikinis, shorts, t-shirts, flip flops, hats, sunglasses and LOTS of sun cream. Ladies, a big pashmina always comes in handy. Especially in shops where the air conditioning is on full blast, or in early/late summer when the evenings are chilly. In the heat, you really notice the difference in fabrics. 100% cotton is far more comfortable than nylon or polyester. So check the labels when you’re out shopping for your holiday clothes.
Winter Weather on the Costa Del Sol
The winters on the Costa del Sol are very mild compared to the UK and central/northern Europe. The coldest month is usually January, with temperatures during the day varying between 11-18°C (52-64°F). At night, they range between 4-12°C (39-54°F). The wettest month is December. The annual average rainfall is approximately 50 days. However, the Costa del Sol has been known to experience both seasons of drought, as well as heavier-than-usual winter rain.
What do I pack for a winter on the Costa Del Sol?
From October to March on the Costa del Sol, you may need a variety of clothes. You can bring anything from bathing suits to thick jackets. The houses have no insulation here, so bring warm indoor clothes. The marble and stone floors also make the apartments/houses feel chilly in the winter. So pack some thick socks and good non-slip slippers.
It’s hard to say exactly how cold you’ll feel, as this depends on the weather you are accustomed to. After many years here, we are acclimatised to the Costa del Sol. Therefore, we can find it really cold in the winter. To give you an example, we often walk along the seafront wearing coats, while people are sunbathing on the beach. So it really depends on the person. Layers are always the best; you can peel them off and put them back on again. Don’t forget a lightweight rain mac for windy or rainy days.
